CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— A serious accident involving a motorcycle and car left one person with life-threatening injuries on April 6, authorities said.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on S. Padre Island Drive eastbound access road at Weber Road. Emergency responders rushed the victim to a local hospital for surgery.
Officials identified Samson Chapa, a 26-year-old resident, as the motorcyclist injured in the accident. Medical personnel placed him on a ventilator due to multiple broken bones and other severe injuries.
Police reported that a 17-year-old driver ran a red light, striking Chapa, who had the right-of-way. The driver was arrested for intoxication assault with a vehicle and possession of marijuana.
An investigation continues by the Corpus Christi Police Department.
